Games based on TV series and movies
While there are pretty much no good movies based on video games, there are quite a few really great games created after TV shows or movies. And before you tell me in the comments that they're all actually based on books or comics, think if any of these games would have been created when they were if their big or small screen counterpart wouldn't have been so popular. So, without any further ado, here are the best games based on TV series or movies.
Game of Thrones
Let's start with the one show to rule them all: HBO's Game of Thrones and TellTale's really great take on it in the game with the same name. This series manages to capture the show's essence perfectly, lets you play with some of the characters that you see on TV and follows in R. R. Martin's ruthlessness when it comes to killing off characters.
Mad Max
Mad Max is a powerful franchise on the big screen and the latest movie from the series was really good, but what I found surprising is that the recently launched game with the same name is also very well made. It's basically a combination between GTA and FarCry but set in the post-apocalyptic wasteland from the Mad Max universe.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Even though not many people know this, the catalyst for the entire Witcher franchise was a pretty unsuccessful TV show that aired in Poland for just one season called 'The Hexer' but adapted to 'The Witcher' in English. Furthermore, because things usually come full circle, thanks to the massive success registered by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Netflix has recently announced that it's working on a "The Witcher" TV show of its own.
Alien Isolation
One of the scariest games that I've ever had the pleasure of playing, Alien Isolation, is based on the Alien franchise and the game's main character Amanda, is the daughter of Ellen Ripley, the main character from the Alien movies. If you like being scared out of your mind and feeling powerless to stop the alien that's hunting you, you must try this game.
The Walking Dead
Another TellTale title and one of the most iconic episodic games ever to be made, The Walking Dead was created thanks to the popularity of AMC's show with the same title. The game even featured some of the characters that you see on TV such as Glen or Michonne, who actually has an entire series (featuring three episodes) centered around her.
Star Wars: Battlefront
Star Wars is such a massive brand with millions of fans all over the world, so it's no wonder that it spawned a whole bunch of games and some of them were even good. The one that's currently the most popular is the multiplayer shooter Battlefront, but if you prefer RPGs, I recommend checking out Knights of the Old Republic, which is truly a Star Wars milestone in gaming.
I know that there are quite a few games that didn't make it to the list, but Batman the Arkham Knight was riddled with bugs at launch date and the many Lord of the Rings, Spiderman or Harry Potter spin-offs just weren't good enough.
