Top Fallout 4 quest mods to play before Fallout: London Top Fallout 4 quest mods to play before Fallout: London

From the very beginning, Fallout has been an instant hit and a phenomenon that shapes the entire industry. The first installment was released in 1997, and it was followed by Fallout 2, then Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76. There have also been official spinoffs like Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel and Fallout: New Vegas, both fully-fledged games made by the same people that worked on the main titles, plus numerous DLCs extending the main story and building new lore around it.

On the fan-made level of this domain, things have been much more active. The recent addition to the already-rich heritage of the game created by grateful gamers is Fallout: London, a mod which, as it seems, claims grand prix as the largest addon to the universe that wasn’t made by the core team of developers. A massive download of 33+ GB, it was officially released on July 25, 2024, a week or so ahead of schedule that put the drop to early August. It is a truly awe-inspiring piece: over 5 years in the making, the mod is the only one so far to take you out of the States and introduce many new things (Atta-boy instead of PipBoy, for example), characters, factions, gameplay features, and, of course, a brand new storyline, as English as it gets.

As of this writing, Fallout: London is available on GOG free of charge. Of course, to play it, you have to own a vanilla copy of Fallout 4 GOTY (stands for Game Of The Year edition) from either Steam or GOG. The latter, by the way, sells it now cheaper than anyone else (around US$17, the price may vary somewhat depending on your location and currency), a nice move that’s obviously not a coincidence. The reviews of Fallout: London, however, have not been stellar, with the current rating of the mod at 3.3 out of 5, mostly due to installation issues. Regardless, it makes sense to wait a bit until the developers iron out the most annoying glitches, and then dive into the game to thoroughly enjoy it. In the meantime, try any (or all) of the Fallout 4 mods listed below to unrust your respective skills and refresh the image of the grim world in your mind. We’ve focused on those that, same as Fallout: London, actually add gameplay hours to the original game.

1. Outcasts and Remnants

Initially released in April, 2017, Outcasts and Remnants has probably set the standard for Fallout 4 mods that add quests, locations, factions, characters etc., to the point of altering the original game experience and main storyline endings. The latest update of this mod, as of this writing, was released in 2020; we’ve contacted the developers to find out if there’s something else in stock for this one, will let you know when we hear back from them. Otherwise, downloading and installing Outcasts and Remnants (use Vortex mod manager to simplify the process)guarantees 20+ hours of gameplay, tons of fun, and a new look at the old favorite.

2. Project Valkyrie

Project Valkyrie follows Outcasts and Remnants and actually needs that mod to be playable. This extension adds 20 quests, approximately 20 hours of playtime, and alters the original game drastically, i.e., you can actually have an ending never intended by Bethesda. Same as Outcasts and Remnants (and pretty much all other Fallout 4 mods out there), it is best installed using Vortex.

3. Point Lookout

If you’ve been a faithful Fallout player, the name of this one probably rings a bell. Yes, there has already been a Point Lookout mod in the radiation-ridden world before, for the 3rd installment of the game. Praised for being a story of its own, that extension was ported to Fallout 4 almost verbatim, with its main quest and all side hustles, new weapons, items, creatures, and a brand new location.

4. Fourville

Fourville stems from Vault 4. The extension adds a city to the Commonwealth, which revolves around the said Vault. Initially released in March of 2020, it is still in the active development phase: the latest version of the mod, 1.14, was uploaded to Nexusmods (this is the hub for fan-made extensions, as you have already guessed) in April of 2024. So far, the developers promise 10+ hours of gameplay through 46 new quests, plus over 5,000 shining lines of dialogues.

5. South of the Sea

Glowing Sea is a mysterious place in Fallout 4 that only high-level players who stocked up on Radaways can explore. It’s got something of an iconic status among the players. South of the Sea, as the name suggests, gives you even more territories to wander around, complete with new locations, enemies, and loot. This mod – latest version, Atom’s Storm, was dropped on May 31, 2024, – requires not only vanilla Fallout 4 GOTY edition but also every official DLC released for the game, otherwise, no go.

6. Maxwell’s World

Maxwell’s World adds to Fallout 4 what you have probably always wanted to see there: an amusement park. Not the usual type thereof, of course; it is a haunted place filled with all sorts of horrors peculiar to the game’s universe. Plus, you get a full-fledged story to play through, complete with side quests (approximately 10 hours of gameplay), multiple endings, and some new heavy stuff like fireworks cannon and burn-you-all-up incinerator. What’s not to like?

7. The Bleachers – A Diamond City Story

The Bleachers mod adds a new spot to the game, a district of the Diamond City, located under the bleacher seats of the stadium. If you missed a rather posh café in Fenway Park, this extension scratches that itch, and lets you enjoy 4 quests (5-7 hours of gameplay), interact with new NPCs, learn never-before-heard stories, own a home inside the arena, and tinker away at the workshop. Fallout 4’s Boston just got bigger and better.

8. The Fens Sheriff's Department – Bleachers 2

As the name suggests, this is the next installment of The Bleachers, much more massive than the first one, according to the developer. This mod adds 20+ hours of gameplay through 50 quests, and introduces a new ending to the original game. Plus, you’ll see new locations, talk to new NPCs, work with a new companion (it feels like he is the actual protagonist of this story, not you), and, of course, fire weapons made specifically for The Fens Sheriff's Department.

9. Atomic Radio and Tales from the Commonwealth

This one is a mod that brings together three other fan-made additions to Fallout 4

  • Atomic Radio, which doesn’t have new quests but lets you enjoy new station broadcasting tracks and ads from the pre-war era, all done exceptionally well;
  • Tales of the Commonwealth, which ups the number of quests available in Fallout 4 considerably, and introduces new NPCs, companions, weapons, items, etc. – everything a gameplay mod/DLC should have;
  • Settlers of the Commonwealth, which brings to life 31 settlers and gives them locations in the wasteland to turn into thriving communities.

The mod, counting over 3.5M downloads thus far, has been first released in 2016, and the latest version thereof was uploaded to Nexusmods in 2021. We’ve reached out to the developer and inquired about the future plans for Tales from the Commonwealth and Fallout 4 mods in general.

10. NPCs Travel

This one doesn’t add quests nor locations or anything of the sort to the vanilla game. Still, it alters the gameplay so significantly that we decided it belonged in this list of Fallout 4 mod, adding hours of immersion into the famous post-apocalyptic world. The name of this extension gives up its function: having installed it, you’ll see wasteland a much more lively place, with interactable NPCs traveling it far and wide, open for conversation, trade, bickering, and everything in between. No traffic jams, pure fun!
