TikTok plans to launch its own music service TikTok plans to launch its own music service

It seems that the Chinese company ByteDance that owns the wildly popular short-video app TikTok plans to launch its own music service. The tech giant has registered a trademark for TikTok Music, a platform that will allow users to purchase, download, livestream and comment on music, as well as modify and upload images as playlist covers.

TikTok has become one of the tools to help users discover new music, since a ton of songs get popular after being played in viral videos. According to a report from last year, 175 tracks from TikTok managed to make it to the Billboard 100 chart. Nevertheless, TikTok still does not have its own music platform available worldwide, and listeners regularly go to popular third-party streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music to listen to their favorite songs.

It should be mentioned that ByteDance owns a music streaming app called Resso, but it's only available in India, Brazil and Indonesia. The app has some of the functionality described in the trademark filing, such as playlists, song-sharing and community interaction. It is still hard to tell whether ByteDance plans on developing the music streaming app based on the Resso framework, or if it will make an entirely new product. While the company is still working on the new music platform, you can check out our list of best music streaming services for 2022.
