Mirumi Robot

Humanity has arrived at a point where it can make robots that don’t actually do any work: at CES 2025, Yukai Engineering, a Japanese startup, gave the public its Mirumi Robot, which essentially is a purse accessory. The “Robot” part of the name is justified, though: designed like a little furry animal with long hands to cling to the bag’s handles, the device has motion and distance sensors that enable it to react to people in the vicinity. The reaction aims to elicit a smile: the robot shyly hides its face and then peeks out, just like a child would do. Expected to arrive in stores in the middle of 2025, this piece of next-gen bag decoration will retail for about $70, if the crowdfunding campaign launched to support the production works out.

Kirin Holdings Electric Salt Spoon

To function properly, a human being needs a small amount of sodium, which is the key component of salt. In many cuisines, however, the dishes are excessively salty, and thus unhealthy. Addressing the respective concern, Kirin Holdings came up with the idea of a spoon that amplifies saltiness and the umami flavor by applying a mild current. While the idea of using electricity in such a context isn’t new, the realization is. CES experts gave the invention Innovation Awards in both Digital Health and Accessibility & Age Tech categories. The spoon will be available for ordering worldwide in mid-2025.
