Topic: How to Import Old Windows Outlook Files In Apple Mail on Mac?

Hello everyone, I am looking for a solution to import old windows outlook files in Apple Mail. These files were stored on my hard drive for a long time. I have some important work stored in those emails that I now want to access. I am not getting any results while using the Import function on Apple Mail. Please help with a solution to import Windows Outlook files into Apple Mail.

I will be very grateful. Thanks

If you are using IMAP and your old files are still on the online email client like Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook then it would be very easy for you to just sign in with the same email address in Apple Mail and all your emails will start downloading in Apple Mail.

If Not So, Then:

An Unconventional Way

On the PC:

-Install Thunderbird & launch it. Import from Outlook (not Outlook Express)
-Let it import account settings, contact & email
-Copy Thunderbird profile (on XP: c:\Documents and Settings\your userid\Application
-Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\your profile.default, Vista/Win7: c;\Users\your userid\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\your profile.default) to your Mac using a thumbdrive.

On the Mac:

-On the Mac, launch Mail.app & go to File ~> Import
-Choose Thunderbird & import the profile folder you copied to your Mac. The imported mail can be found under "On My Mac"
-Go to "Mailbox ~> Rebuild

Let us know if that works or if you have any issues along the way.

I did use IMAP on Outlook for Windows but these files were exported ones and I do not have any access to windows system. I looked into the forum discussion mentioned and found out that there is no way around for this issue rather than using an application. In the discussion I found out that Apple has also listed an application called PST Converter Pro in order to deal with this conversion. I have tested its trial version and it seems to work absolutely fine. I think I will go with this tool.

Thanks for the answer.

See the problem is Mac Mail does not support Outlook PST mailbox format. So first you'll need to convert your PST files into MBOX and then you'll be able to import your files easily smile .
