Something new from Apple - StudioPods Something new from Apple - StudioPods

Despite their pretty steep price, the AirPods are one of the most successful wearables in the world, so it's no wonder that Apple may be looking to do more on the audio market. There are some strong rumors indicating that the IT giant may be also working on a pair of over-the-ear headphones. However, according to unofficial sources, the company is looking to combine the AirPods and the HomePod technology into a high-end device, so don't expect to get them cheaply.

Even though there has been no official confirmation from Apple about any upcoming over-the-ear headphones, the rumor itself is pretty believable. Initially ran by a publication called KGI Securities, it was then confirmed by the well-known Bloomberg website, which featured a couple of stories on the topic. Even though the Cupertino-based giant already owns Beats, I guess it makes sense for it to complete its audio lineup with a set of high-quality cans. Unfortunately, the name of the product is still pretty much a mystery; StudioPods is our best guess, but if you keep Apple's naming pattern, it could also be something else like AudioPods, SoundPods, etc.

As far as the launch date goes, the StudioPods were originally rumored to hit the market before the end of 2018. However, sources indicate that Apple has ran into some technical difficulties in the production process, so somewhere in 2019 is our next best guess. Moreover, there's even some chatter about the project being delayed even further as the company has already tested several designs and none of them proved to be viable solutions. From what I understand, Apple envisions its new headphones as a high-end product, which means a high-end price. The cans will probably have a price that's close to the top of the line products made under the Beats brand. Unfortunately, I don't have enough information to venture a guess into the actual number, but I expect them to be closer to the price of the HomePod than to the cost of the AirPods.

In case you're curios what will make the StudioPods so expensive other than their brand, it appears that they will have some interesting features. For starters, rumors indicate that the cans will include noise-cancelling technology along with wireless charging capabilities. Furthermore, even though they're over-the-ear headphones, wireless pairing functionality (like the one from the AirPods) is also a very likely possibility. Other probable features include automatic audio calibration in real time, soft cushions with advanced venting as well as automatic responses to music playback.

Now that I've told you all you need to know about the StudioPods, I need to remind you that Apple hasn't made any official announcements just yet. This means that even though the sources seem very believable, the IT giant could change its mind and scrap the entire project at any point. Nevertheless, it seems like an interesting product, so I hope to see StudioPods on the market in 2019 along with the new generation of AirPods.
