New Apple Watch app knows when you're happy or sad New Apple Watch app knows when you're happy or sad

The Apple Watch already had a lot of useful functions such as giving you an easy way to pay for your stuff, keeping track of your health, etc., but it didn't really know anything about your emotional well-being. That is all going to change as there's now a new app called EmoWatch that can tell the mood that you're in and keep a log with all the emotions that it registers. At the moment, the app's still in preview mode, so don't expect too much out of it.

EmoWatch is an app designed to work on iPhones and Apple Watches. The application uses a vocal emotion recognition technology called Empath, so it requires you to use Siri in order to "understand" how you're feeling from the tone of your voice. In case you're wondering how it all works, I admit that I don't fully understand the entire process. However, from what I've read, the service takes a short sample of your voice (about 2-3 seconds), then analyzes the pitch, speed, intonation, volume, etc. and gives you results in real time. Currently, the application only offers basic functionality such as guessing your mood and keeping records, but hopefully, things will get better by the time the official version of the application comes out.

What's even more interesting is that the Empath API is available to the developers, which means that any app creator can easily incorporate it into their products. At the moment, the functionality may be limited, but I'm sure that there are many interesting ways in which one can take advantage from having a real-time feedback on the user's mood.
