Facebook says that outside apps haven't been hacked Facebook says that outside apps haven't been hacked

According to a recent announcement made by Facebook, there's no indication that third-party apps and services have been affected by the recent hack. This means that your Instagram, Spotify and every other credentials that were connected to your Facebook account should be safe. However, at the moment, I don't have a lot of confidence in the social network, so I'm going to take every public statement that the company makes with a grain of salt.

For those of you who haven't found out yet, Facebook was hacked about a week ago. The official report stated that the attackers used a vulnerability in the view as a feature to steal the authentications tokens from multiple users. As a result, Facebook has logged over 90 million people out of their accounts and notified them to log back in. Since the stolen identity tokens were immediately revoked by the company, it was believed that the hackers were also after the credentials for third-party services, but apparently, that wasn't the case.

Currently, Facebook is working with both the FBI and Irish Data Protection Commission to find the hackers. However, it will probably be a while until we find out anything more about it, if ever. Unfortunately, it seems that nowadays, big companies get hacked more and more frequently and no matter how much you try to protect yourself from hackers, you'll never really completely safe.
