Programs:Element Browser

A breif description of Element Browser and its versions.

New page

Element Browser is a web browser developed by the UK software house, Element Software.
It is a standards compliment browser which aims to improve a users experience of the internet and try to improve it.

Versions

1.0
Development of Element Browser 1.0 was started in early 2007. This version was more centric on the Office ribbon interface, as a research project in how the Fluent User Interface would work with a web browser. Element Browser was the first web browser to experiment with this.

2.0
Element Browser 2.0 was a complete refresh of the browser engine and code. It also introduced a revamped and simplified user interface, which unique tabs known as Shelves. Browsers such as Opera 10 followed this trait by integrating tab screenshots into their user interface much later.

Element Browser has a recorded user base of over ten thousand users worldwide, and is still growing.

Future versions

3.0
Element Browser 3.0 is the next version of Element Browser. According to Element Software, this release is being aimed at speed of loading webpages, and a 3D framework which utilizes OpenGL. It is also aiming to deliver a new user interface, the Carousel, which will greatly change the way users browse the web. Developer builds were released 16/11/09.

4.0
Version 4.0 will deliver a new web engine, known as the Kestrel Project.

Open Source

The HTML layout engine included with Element Browser, known as ElementKit, is open source. ElementKit is a derivaritive of the Mozilla Gecko layout engine, but includes features more oriented for the development of Windows based applications. Therefore ElementKit is known not to work on Linux or Mac OS X.
