PSP issues

I have the PSP program, and I don't remember when and how I got it, and if I had software for it, it's definitely gone. SO, it's now having problems, and I went to check for updates and I got an error code saying that the product is not registered so it cannot look for updates.

How do I go about registering this product so I can update bugs and patches and upgrades and whatnot.
